PROJECT BRIEFING

.com is a California-based post-punk project led by Cameron Khan. Their music is both catchy and nostalgic,

and is what some would term "Darkwave", a subgenre characterized by a dark and autumnal aesthetic.

Our creative relationship began when Cameron reached out about having a t-shirt and a promotional poster designed.

The t-shirt concept centered around featuring the band's logo displayed on an old computer. The band already had a logo

they had been actively using but were open to modifying it in order to incorporate it into the design. I felt it would help

the cohesion of the graphic to mimic the display of the computer's resolution by reducing the bit map of the logo

and creating some digital striations to give it that more vintage look.

Then came creating the computer graphic that the logo would be displayed upon.

I sourced a few options from an image search and created three different variants to choose from.

I also created some color combinations as options to choose from. When it comes to merchandising I find it especially important

to first create a design that is an affordable one-color option and then expanding from there so the graphic

works at all levels of complexity.

Below is the graphic and color scheme for the design we finalized for the t-shirt.

I also designed a poster to promote their upcoming show in Long Beach where they would be debuting the new merchandise.

I created color variants along with square and vertical formats to be able to adapt to any sizing needs.

Later, Cameron followed up with wanting to do a poster that mimicked vintage 80's computer adverts.

He mentioned he'd like a hand drawn look and sent over several references to inspire the overall vision for the concept.

I really wanted to create a custom typeface for this design, and I was particularly inspired by one of the references that Cameron sent over.

I crafted a modern looking serif font then cut lines across the top half to mimic that 80's look. I also roughened the edges

and utilized a displacement map to give the logo a more hand drawn look.

After the logo was done the design came together rather quickly. I felt inspired and approached the poster layout with

a clear vision in mind. I envisioned the logo at the top with the main graphic being a neon silhouette seated at a computer

displaying the concert details. I utilized a couple images for reference and created the main illustrations, incorporated some

stars, andadded glow and texture to push that vintage aesthetic.
